Karunambika Lean Life Centre

The Discalced Carmelites from the beginning of the Mission have been engaged in various Charitable and Social activities, like assisting sick and old People, helping homeless People, widows, Orphans and a special mention to be made is the Karunambika Lean Life Centre at Hemachandrapuram, a centre which aims at rehabilitating the Leprosy families. There are at present 72 families residing in the colony which are taken care medically and financially through Pension to each family by Discalced Carmelites under the society name called OCD Service Society. Along with their families, their children too are given a special attention and care with regard to their overall growth. They are sent to our own schools and also reside in our boarding homes attached to our respective schools. This special care is rendered to them so that they are not neglected in the education field and also as a result of this education they can earn employment and support their families financially.

Tailoring Centre

We find in a society where male domination is more prevalent, women do not have enough access to education facilities and even to economic independence. This is because of lack of skills and they are mostly restricted to domestic works (cooking, fetching water, and looking after children). They are less likely to get regular works given the existing discrimination in the society. That is indeed affecting the family’s day to day living. Establishing a unit of tailoring centre at Choutuppal is helping them utilize their untapped potential, time and energy and raise their self-esteem. They are also financially empowered and helping the family economically so that there is no financial burden.
